Carrying Ghosts – Related EP
Light on its feet, Carrying Ghosts creates a playful sound with “Related EP”. Acid, ambient, dub, and a tinge of industrial are all framed within a powerful house context. By opting for such a wide range of styles Carrying Ghosts is able to create a versatile fully-formed sound. The drums hit with the right impact as melodies skitter about overhead. Over the course of the collection Carrying Ghosts explores texture and mood, allowing for a luxuriant sound. Pieces play off of each other as Carrying Ghosts seems to bring the sound within focus, making the songs feel akin to a flower in bloom.
Nowhere is the spirit of evolution more prevalent than on “Gen”. Quite stately in tone the song unfurls with a sense of purpose. Acid techno floats up into the mix. Rhythms possess a driving power as they move forward. Towards the latter half of the song the textures are nearly symphonic as they bring everything to a satisfying close. Slowing things down considerably is the fragile structure of “Machine Lover”. Hard-hitting beats intermingle with baroque melodies to create something that exists in a constant state of flux. Flutters of melodies give the song an airy atmosphere. By far the highlight of the collection is the satisfying groove of “Related”. “Related” brings the collection to a close in the best way possible, with staccato keyboard stabs alongside a wide variety of layers coming together to create an engrossing environment.
Satisfying and quite ornate, Carrying Ghosts delivers a sound that feels vital on “Related EP”.
