Celadon Candy – Celadonia
Celadon Candy’s “Celadonia” effortlessly merges elements of house and psychedelic into a satisfying whole. Anchored by heavy, almost physical, beats, the songs shimmer and shine. Intricately layered melodies result in a swirling sea of sound. By far the heart and soul of the collection are the strong vocals that help serve to center the pieces. With a timeless sound the songs have a classic pop sensibility, one that makes the songs linger in the mind longer after they are over.
“Irritant” opens the album off with a sense of urgency. With a massive groove, the song explores the trials and tribulations relationships can bring. For “Liberatines” Celadon Candy continues down this path of self-discovery, as the introspective lyrics take hold. Minimal and spacious “Broken” strips things down to the essential, as Celadon Candy manages to balance stark reality with glimmers of hope. By far the highlight of the album is the swirling shoegaze atmosphere of the title track “Celadonia”. Absolutely massive in scope the piece refuses to let up, as elements of jungle and rave waft into the mix. Such an ornate arrangement helps to move the piece forward as the amount of energy it possesses is dazzling. A tender moment appears on the funk-infused synthesizer work of “Sweet” as the nimble keyboard work is impressive in bring the entire sound together. Bringing the album to a satisfying close is the non-stop work of “Apostacy” whose insistent beat is an absolute radiant joy.
On “Celadonia” Celadon Candy recalls the best of synthpop, from Phil Collins to Depeche Mode.
