DeepChord – Auratones
Pure luxury radiates from the earthly warmth of DeepChord’s “Auratones”. Neatly merging deep house and dub into a satisfying whole, DeepChord sculpts a world that is easy to get lost in, the many layers of sound swimming together in a blissful haze. By opting for such a serene style, DeepChord creates a reflective mood that permeates the entirety of the album. At times the transitions feel so flawless it feels akin to stepping into an entire ongoing set. Beats have a physicality to them as well as an emotional resonance. Melodic shifts occur within the fuzzed-out ambience that wraps around the pulsing rhythms.
After the eerie beatless opener “Fog Hotel” things start up in earnest with the mystical throb of “Wind In Trees”. Featuring some particularly fine textures, the song has nearly a tropical quality to it. Elements of shoegaze flow into the mix on the heady “Lagonda” which at times flirts with tender tones. Things are stripped away for the nostalgia-soaked bliss of “Portofino” where the glowing decay and disembodied vocal snippets work wonders. Heavy beat workouts define the powerful muscle of “Underwater Galaxies”. Like a graceful classical drone “Azure” offers a multifaceted soothing drone. Playful to its very core “Devil Ray” opts for a jumping, rollicking spirit. On “Signals” DeepChord bring all that came before it into a satisfying stream to close the album in style.
With “Auratones” DeepChord dives into a swirling sea of sound, one where every piece adds to the all-consuming, comforting aural atmosphere.
