Post Scriptum – Year Zero EP
Post Scriptum’s “Year Zero EP” is brutalism brought to the dance floor. Full of pulsating physical beats the songs exude a sense of panic and dread. The darkened hues of the sound work wonderfully as they are layered up until the breaking point. Very much flirting with the concepts of noise Post Scriptum ensures that everything involved remains in a constant state of flux. Rhythm serves as the only anchor in the sea of chaos as Post Scriptum emphasizes atmosphere over melody.
Not a moment is wasted in the propulsive physicality of the opening title track “Year Zero”. Allowing for a mere moment or two of only the drum thud the song’s understanding of tension is admirable. How the piece comes together gives it a swirling, dizzying feeling. On “Nuestra Planeta” a greater amount of isolationist ambience is brought into the fray. Rather eerie the song explores a great deal of geometry as the song shifts in a myriad number of ways. By letting the song sprawl every single element of the sound is explored in full, along with distorted samples swimming through the debris. For the flip side of things 9T9T opts for an energetic approach to the sound. With “Year Zero” the song develops a driving rhythm that moves at breakneck pace. Ending the collection with a sense of grandeur is the sublime shuffle of “Nuestra Planeta”.
Consuming all in its path, Post Scriptum’s “Year Zero EP” is an absolute beast.
