Secret Pyramid – Movements of Night 7.9
Pyramid’s ‘Movements of Night’ owes a lot to shoegaze. Dreamy landscapes
come to the surface out of the murk. The pieces interlock together perfectly.
In a way the entire album serves as an extended track. With this in mind the
sounds give off a feeling of exquisite eternity. Quiet defines much of the
album as it appears afraid to raise its voice. Much of the power comes from the
sheer volume that is held back, allowing the music to gradually move to the
Descent’ requires full volume. Over the course of its six minutes a steady
persistent thud its threatened sonic violence is contained. This is one of the
highlights of the album. ‘To Forget’ is another particularly memorable moment. For
‘To Forget’ decides to include a rather simple yet effective base. Beyond the
guitar and bass are vocals left completely indistinguishable, little whispered
siren cries lost in the sound. How it embodies a slow steady fall is gorgeous
as the piece feels informed by geography. ‘Wish’ is Secret Pyramid’s blunt
sonic weapon. It is by far the loudest and most aggressive piece on here,
descending into utter static towards the end. ‘Escape (Fade Out)’ ends the
album off on a rather haunted note with mere traces of the previous noise.
tried to perfect this sound for quite some time. Secret Pyramid finds new paths
through the old genres, forging mood music that’s as beautiful as it is
cryptic. It is better that way.
