Tree branch Twig – beneath the
Tree branch Twig’s “beneath the” is a disorienting trip through a post-apocalyptic Americana, weaving folk and drone together as one. Rather mystical in tone an intimacy exists within these carefully crafted pieces. Vocals rest at the very soul of the album helping to inform all else around it. Positively timeless and perfectly executed, Tree branch Twig lets the mood linger in the mind long after the album has ended. A haunting sort of beauty informs the entirety of the dusty, well-worn tracks for they merge together to form a spellbinding whole.
Beginning with a mere hush “under the water/under the ground” starts the album on a high note. At first quite sedate the piece gradually builds itself up into a force of nature. The vocals entering the mix give the song tremendous strength and power. Eventually the piece moves forward into shadowy realms before seemingly disappearing into a glorious midst. Far more direct is “in the wake of” where tree Branch twig forgo the drone of the opener for something tactile. Every single instrument shines brightly while the song has an introspective approach to it. Almost yearning the nostalgic hue is undeniable. Delving deep into nostalgia is the eerie world of “toward the american frontier” where the song evolves in a thoughtful, ritualistic way. Easily the highlight of the entire album “up in arms, our sisters/our brothers” has a disorienting presence to it. At first easy to follow the song eventually transforms into a work that moves neither backwards nor forwards, remaining hard to precisely pin down.
“beneath the” shows the undeniable power of Tree branch Twig’s unique take on folk traditions creating a vast aural universe.
